As the leader in Web 3 entertainment, Gala has close to 30 games in production. I am often asked which game within the Gala ecosystem is my favorite. The answer is unequivocally our Web 3 MMORPG — Mirandus.
Mirandus is an epic fantasy RPG set in a massive world where players have absolute freedom of choice. It is a game powered by blockchain technology allowing players to truly own their digital content.
Mirandus is not out yet. In fact, it won’t be out for some time.
MMORPGs are indeed massive and the development cycle can take years and sometimes close to a decade to see the game released in full.
That being said, I have no doubt about the potential for Mirandus to change the gaming landscape as I continue to see development updates from our team.
Moreover, Mirandus is a game with a true Web3 visionary at the helm. When I first met Michael McCarthy, I was blown away by his knowledge of blockchain gaming and how the principles of Web 3 could be interwoven into an MMORPG to create a game, unlike anything we have seen before.
“Player ownership of in-game assets is a central mechanic, with players being able to hold land deeds which allow them to claim parts of the wilderness and set up holdfasts ranging from small farms to massive cities.”
I recently wrote about how a well-designed MMORPG has the greatest potential to be the killer game for Web 3 onboarding. This is because the core elements of the Web 3 gaming narrative are existing components of MMORPG design.
These elements include in-game economies, token generation, token sinks, and digital currencies.
That is where Materium comes in.
“Mirandus is rich with Materium for those willing to brave the dangers of the continent — and for those brave souls, the more Materium they hold, the more powerful they can become. With Materium, all things are possible.”
Materium is true magic and it is the in-game digital currency that enables everything from increasing abilities to spellcasting, crafting and even teleportation.
Materium can be earned by playing Mirandus and it can even be taken out of the game to be traded on secondary markets.
If the grand vision for Mirandus comes to fruition, we should have a game that enables true player ownership, where digital assets power the entire game ecosystem. The economy of Mirandus will be fully player driven. Players can own land within the game ranging from small towns to complete cities. The items and equipment you use in the game will be crafted by a fellow adventurer. Players can earn Matereum as a reward for their time in Mirandus which can be used as a resource or traded on a secondary market.
This is the Web 3 title I envisioned when I first saw the potential for blockchain to revolutionize video games.
I cannot wait to invite you all to experience the world of Mirandus where you can choose your quest in the epic fight against evil.
